Contain criminal elements: KPCC

The anti-people policies of the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) government and its failure to contain criminal elements is affecting the life of the people of the State, KPCC general secretary M.A. Kuttappan has said.
He was inaugurating a dharna organised by the District Congress Committee to protest against the ‘rise in the incidence of crime,’ in front of the mini-Civil Station here on Monday. The law and order situation had hit a new low.

Many leaders of the CPI(M) were patronising goonda elements, Dr. Kuttappan said.
The LDF government had diluted the Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act, better known as the Anti-Goonda Act, to help anti-social elements, he said. All major cities were being controlled by goonda gangs. The police force had been demoralised, leaving the law and order in disarray, he added. DCC president P. Mohanraj presided over the inaugural meet.

Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, K. Sivadasan Nair, Adoor Prakash, MLAs; Youth Congress State vice-president Rinku Cherian; district president Babu Divakaran, Mahila Congress district president K.P. Rajalakshmi and Malethu Saraladevi, former MLA, also spoke.
‘Mafia culture’ Staff Reporter writes from Kollam: N. Peethambara Kurup, MP, has alleged that a mafia culture is taking root in the State under the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government.

He was inaugurating a dharna organised by the Kollam District Congress Committee (DCC) in front of the Civil Station here on Monday in protest against “the growing goonda culture in the State.” He said that the LDF rule provided no security to the life and property of the people. It appears that the government is unable to control goondas.

The police have become mute spectators to the situation. The situation is such that committing a murder has become a cinch in the State.
DCC president Kadavoor Sivadasan, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary K.C. Rajan and United Democratic Front district chairman Sooranad Rajashekaran spoke.
